Water Register indexes the provincial water licence export from Alberta Open Government. You can search by licence number, holder, watershed, priority date, volume, and purpose. A separate board carries buy and sell transfer posts. Reference notes cover permanent and temporary transfers, Bill 7, and EPA versus AER filing.
The service does not broker transfers, hold funds, or file applications.
The Bow, Oldman, and lower South Saskatchewan sub-basins were closed to new surface water licences in 2006. New surface allocation in those areas since then has generally required a transfer between existing licence holders. Alberta Environment and Protected Areas reports approximately 400 completed transfers province-wide since the closures. Transfer prices are not published in most cases.
This site presents the licence export in a searchable table. Transaction terms remain between the parties.
Public records are compiled from government sources. Listings are user-submitted intent posts.
Environmental consultants, engineering firms, irrigation districts, municipalities, legal counsel, and project teams reviewing allocation in closed or restricted watersheds.
